Venezuelan Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez calls election talks disrespectful amid earthquake crisis

Jorge Rodríguez, president of Venezuela's National Assembly, said that debating the renewal of the Supreme Court (TSJ) or the National Electoral Council (CNE) during the current emergency is “disrespect” and “rudeness.” In a press conference marking 17 days since a double earthquake that has killed more than 4,000 people, Rodríguez stressed that the government's sole priority is attending to victims, rebuilding homes, and restoring basic services. He rejected any meetings on political agendas, including potential presidential elections, until the humanitarian situation is resolved.

The remarks were reported by multiple local outlets, emphasizing that the legislative leader will focus exclusively on relief and reconstruction efforts rather than partisan discussions.
