Venezuelan authorities clean Maracaibo canal and open new recreation facilities in Caracas

The Municipal Institute of the Environment (IMA) led a cleanup of a 700‑meter stretch of the Cañada Caribe in the 23 de Marzo neighbourhood of Maracaibo. Officials removed an estimated 8,400 tonnes of solid waste using heavy machinery, after a decade of community requests. IMA president Janner Pérez and Mayor Giancarlo Di Martino highlighted ongoing awareness campaigns and school talks to prevent future dumping.

In Caracas, the government of the Capital District inaugurated a rehabilitated sports court, a new children’s park, paved walkways and an octagonal primary‑health module in the Las Casitas area of La Vega. District Governor Nahum Fernández said the works will benefit more than 9,000 families, with 500 families directly accessing the new facilities, and support the second phase of a senior‑care programme.
