Venezuelan auto parts chamber seeks tax relief and credit after June earthquakes

The June 24 earthquakes that struck Venezuela caused extensive human loss and damage to commercial and territorial assets, especially in La Guaira, Caracas and surrounding areas. About 15 % of auto‑parts retailers were severely affected, and only roughly 2,000 of the 7,000 shops in La Guaira remain operational.

The Cámara Nacional de Comercio de Autopartes (Canidra), led by President Carlos Rondón, joined other business federations (Consecomercio, Conindustria and Fedecámaras) in demanding tax exemptions and financing arrangements. Canidra also supported a complaint that the Vargas municipality continues to levy taxes despite the destruction. The group proposes a "force‑majeure" legal framework that would grant payment deferrals, waive fines and interest, ease formal duties and help rebuild destroyed accounting records. Public‑private credit lines are being sought to replace lost inventory and repair damaged industrial machinery.
