Venezuelan Central Bank Raises Dollar Rate and Triples 2026 Sales

The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) announced several currency measures in July 2026. On 23 July the official dollar price was set at 737.88 bolívares and the euro at 841.84 bolívares; it rose to 742.22 bolívares for the dollar on 24 July. The 21 July rate was 737.2321 bolívares per dollar, a modest 0.04 % increase from the previous day.

According to Ecoanalítica, the BCV sold a total of 7.897 billion dollars between January and July, roughly three times the amount sold in the same period a year earlier, reflecting a 178 % increase. Economist Hermes Pérez highlighted that the bank’s policy reduced the gap between the official and parallel rates to about 17.4 %, though he warned that inflation remains the chief challenge. The official rate accumulated an 18.33 % rise in July, marking the largest monthly adjustment in over three years.

These steps aim to increase dollar liquidity, curb inflationary pressures and align the official exchange rate more closely with market realities.
