Venezuelan cinema sees new film release and festival announcement
The Venezuelan film industry is seeing significant activity with the release of a new feature film and the announcement of a major film festival. Actress Mimí Lazo returns to the big screen in ‘El nuevo pez que fuma’, directed by Luis Fernández. The film is described as an autobiographical meta-fiction exploring themes of desire and power, following an actress whose life begins to mirror the dramatic roles she plays.
Additionally, the Fundación para el Desarrollo del Arte y la Cultura (Fundearc) has announced the return of the Venezuelan Film Festival (FCV). Scheduled to take place from November 22 to 26, 2026, in Margarita Island, the event will host a unified celebration of its 21st and 22nd editions. This mega-event will feature a competition of 63 feature films, including 14 debut works, showcasing the recent production of national cinema.
