Venezuelan Companies Face Cybersecurity Gaps After Earthquake
Following recent seismic events in Venezuela, many firms whose physical infrastructure was damaged have shifted to remote or hybrid work. The rapid transition left critical security gaps, as personal devices connect to corporate servers without strong authentication or antimalware protection, raising the risk of widespread malware infection.
José Luis Rangel, Commercial Manager at ESET Venezuela, warned that “without robust protocols, malware on a personal machine can quickly spread to all company equipment.” He urged companies to adopt mandatory antimalware solutions, enforce multi‑factor authentication for server access, and implement controls to limit threat propagation. Rangel noted that a large share of organizations still lack the tools and training needed to defend against such improvised scenarios, emphasizing the need for heightened employee awareness and comprehensive cybersecurity measures.
