Venezuelan dollar rate surpasses 600 bolívares as inflation accelerates
The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) reported that the official dollar price reached 602.33 bolívares on 18 June 2026, an 8.64 % rise over the month and a 99.8 % increase since the start of the year. The devaluation marks roughly twenty months of continuous weakening of the bolívar, which has lost half its value against the dollar in 2026. Inflation in Venezuela has surged to 102 % in the first five months of the year, and a family of five now needs about US$772.74 per month for basic food needs, prompting street protests over wages and living costs.
A day later, on 19 June 2026, the BCV published an updated reference rate of 607.3919 bolívares per dollar, a further 0.84 % increase. The rate reflects official market averages and is used as a benchmark for financial operations, pricing and economic planning in the country.
