Venezuelan families demand answers after deportee hotel collapse

Families of 146 Venezuelan migrants deported from the United States are demanding transparency and an apology from the Venezuelan government following a fatal building collapse. The deportees were being held at the La Llanada hotel in La Guaira state under the custody of intelligence agents (Sebin) when twin earthquakes struck the region on June 24.

Relatives allege that the migrants were stripped of their belongings and identification upon arrival and were prevented from evacuating the building during the tremors. Protesters in Caracas, including mothers of the deceased, have criticized the lack of official information regarding the number of survivors and fatalities. They are calling for moral compensation and better deportation protocols, noting that the forced confinement prevented victims from reacting to the natural disaster.
