Caracas protesters demand release of political prisoners

In Caracas, Venezuela, families and activists from the Alianza por la Libertad de los Presos Políticos held demonstrations to demand the release of political detainees and greater transparency regarding recent releases. Protesters gathered at Parque Carabobo and the Ministry of Public Affairs, eventually marching toward the Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace.

During the mobilization, demonstrators successfully broke through two police cordons established by the Policía Nacional Bolivariana (PNB). While a delegation of five family members was received by officials to deliver a formal petition, reports indicated instances of tension and physical aggression. One specific report noted that PNB officers allegedly assaulted an elderly woman during a protest near the Ministry of Interior.

Participants challenged official government figures, claiming that while authorities cited 131 recent releases, the actual number of political prisoners exceeds 400. They demanded the publication of an official list of those released and a full review of judicial processes.

Separately, Venezuelan authorities granted the release of two SEBIN officials, Broker Ramírez and Aron Seijas, who had been in custody since August 2025 following the escape of businessman Francisco Convit. The legal terms of their release remain unspecified.
