Venezuelan film El Nuevo Pez que Fuma selected for Mar del Plata Film Festival

The Venezuelan film ‘El Nuevo Pez que Fuma’ (2026), directed by Luis Fernández, has been selected to compete in the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. As a Category ‘A’ event accredited by the FIAPF, the festival holds a status comparable to Cannes and Venice.

The production serves as a narrative successor to Román Chalbaud’s 1977 classic ‘El pez que fuma’. Rather than a direct remake, the story follows an actress returning to participate in a new version of the original film, where her personal life begins to mirror the romantic triangle depicted in the fiction.

The film features a cast including Mimí Lazo, Jorge Reyes, Fran Berenguer, and Claudia Rojas. It has also been submitted as Venezuela’s official entry for the Goya Awards.
