Venezuelan floods force evacuation of over 1,000 families

In the parish of Moroturo, Urdaneta municipality, Lara state, heavy rains caused the Urama stream to overflow, flooding the main road and cutting off the community. About 1,000 families were isolated; medical staff had to transport patients on a tractor because ambulances could not pass. One patient with suspected appendicitis was taken to the Central University Hospital in Barquisimeto using a makeshift platform on the tractor.

In Barinas state, the Caparo River overflowed after rivers Socopó, Bum Bum, Acequia and Anaro rose, affecting the Pedraza municipality. Humanitarian teams from the Institute Autonomous of Civil Protection and Disaster Management (IAPROCEB), local authorities, the National Armed Forces and police delivered food, water, medicines and medical consultations to more than 2,000 people from 500 families. Authorities said the response will continue while rains persist.
