Venezuelan gang leader ‘Niño Guerrero’ killed in US‑backed Bolívar raid

Héctor Guerrero Flores, known as “Niño Guerrero,” the top commander of the criminal organization Tren de Aragua, was killed during a joint U.S.–Venezuelan security operation in the Bolívar state of southeastern Venezuela. The raid, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, followed a U.S. $5 million bounty and was confirmed by Venezuelan authorities, who said the operation also dismantled linked criminal structures.

The death has heightened uncertainty in gold‑mining communities such as Las Claritas and El Callao, where residents reported a sudden security presence and the possible displacement of thousands of miners. Local officials warned that the rapid influx of displaced people could overwhelm services in the region.

Analysts note that the removal of the gang’s leader deals a major blow to the Tren de Aragua, a network that operates across Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Ecuador and the United States. While the raid curtails the group’s leadership, experts caution that its decentralized structure may allow other commanders to assume control, keeping the transnational criminal threat alive.
