Venezuela's Ministry of Ecosocialism Enforces Zero‑Tolerance on Illegal Coastal Dumping

On 13 July 2026 the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (Minec) issued an official communique declaring "tolerancia cero" for any illicit discharge of solid or liquid waste into the country's coasts, rivers or natural areas. The statement warns that such activities constitute a crime punishable by fines, criminal prosecution and an obligation to restore the affected sites. The announcement follows reports of construction debris from the 24 June earthquake being dumped near the shoreline of La Guaira, prompting environmental activists to warn of heavy‑metal contamination, altered pH and damage to marine ecosystems. Minec reiterated that waste must be deposited only in authorized landfills or controlled dump sites and reminded citizens of the reporting channels: telephone (+58 0212‑408‑1111), toll‑free 0800‑AMBIENT (0800‑262‑4368) and the ministry’s official websites. The ministry emphasized collective responsibility and its commitment to a sustainable future for present and future generations.
