Venezuelan national detained by U.S. immigration authorities

José Rafael Alambarrio, a Venezuelan national, has been in U.S. immigration custody for nine months. His wife, Heather, has publicly called for his release, describing him as her protector and source of joy.

The couple had filed an I-130 petition to establish residency. While Alambarrio was previously released during the Biden administration following an initial detention by Border Patrol in August 2023, he was taken back into custody during a recent appointment regarding his pending political asylum claim. He is currently being held at the Adams County Correctional Facility in Mississippi.
