Venezuelan NGOs Call for Election Roadmap after June Double Earthquake

The human‑rights NGO Movimiento Vinotinto presented a preliminary report on the impact and structural causes of the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June, affecting La Guaira and Yaracuy. Director Manuel Virgüez highlighted gaps between official damage figures (383 buildings) and satellite data (434 buildings) and noted that more than a thousand homes were damaged. He said the authorities have reported 156 missing persons and urged families to register them with the forensic service.

On 27 July, a coalition of Venezuelan civil‑society organisations issued a manifesto demanding a verifiable timetable for jointly holding presidential and National Assembly elections. The groups call for the renewal of the National Electoral Council (CNE) within three months, the adoption of a special electoral statute by 30 October 2026, international observation from the start, and the release of political prisoners. They propose that the first transitional election be held within a year of 1 August 2026, linking the country’s reconstruction after the earthquakes to a democratic renewal.
