Venezuelan opposition condemns misogyny against political leaders
Venezuelan opposition leaders and the Plataforma Unitaria Democrática have condemned recent misogynistic attacks directed at political figures Dinorah Figuera and Delsa Solórzano.
Opposition leader Edmundo González rejected derogatory comments made by analyst Esteban Gerbasi regarding Figuera, emphasizing that a woman's gender should not be used as a tool for public attack. The Plataforma Unitaria also expressed solidarity with Solórzano following attacks by Diosdado Cabello, stating that political differences must be addressed through arguments and ideas rather than denigrating campaigns or sexist insults.
Reports from Laboratorio de Paz highlight a broader trend of violence against women in politics. According to the data, 100% of women surveyed believed their personal lives are more scrutinized than those of men, while 73.9% reported being judged on physical appearance or family conduct rather than political work. Additionally, 65.2% of women in politics reported experiencing intimidation from security agencies or actors linked to political power.
