Venezuela opposition holds nationwide protests for elections

Thousands of Venezuelans participated in the first nationwide opposition protests in nearly two years, demanding a fixed electoral timetable for presidential elections and the release of political prisoners. Organized by the Vente Venezuela movement led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado, the demonstrations took place in Caracas and several other cities, including Valencia, Maracay, San Cristobal, Maracaibo, Tachira, and Falcón.

In Caracas, protesters gathered at Plaza Venezuela but moved toward the entrance of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) to avoid clashing with a simultaneous march held by the ruling Socialist Party. While the opposition calls for elections to be held by July 2027, interim President Delcy Rodriguez has pledged elections without specifying a date.

Vente Venezuela reported that seven individuals responsible for sound equipment were detained by the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) following the Caracas mobilization, and three sound trucks were confiscated. Protesters also demanded the safe return of Maria Corina Machado, who remains in exile.
