Venezuelan Press Union Accuses National Guard of Blocking Coverage of La Guaira Demolition

The Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Prensa (SNTP) said that on 30 July 2026 National Bolivarian Guard (GNB) personnel tried to prevent journalists from covering the demolition of a building in the Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi urbanisation in Catia La Mar, La Guaira. SNTP reported that three media workers were ordered to leave the site even though they were outside the official security perimeter. The union condemned the action as an unlawful restriction on press freedom and demanded that the government establish clear, safe conditions for journalists to report on operations of public interest. The demolition was part of cleanup efforts following the region’s recent double‑earthquake.
