Venezuelan press union reports copyright abuse used to censor media

The National Union of Press Workers of Venezuela (SNTP) has reported a pattern of attacks against Venezuelan media outlets through fraudulent copyright infringement claims on digital platforms. The union noted that this practice has been observed over the last six months.

Specific outlets mentioned as having faced content removal or account suspensions include El Nacional, La Gran Aldea, Armando.info, Con La Lupa, El Pitazo, and La Verdad de Vargas. The SNTP stated that these reports are used to exploit automated platform decision-making to silence journalistic content and remove “uncomfortable information” from public debate.

The union warned that these tactics serve as a mechanism for censorship, particularly as dozens of digital media outlets in Venezuela already face blocking, further limiting access to independent information.
