Venezuelan public backs dollarization to curb hyperinflation

A poll conducted by AtlasIntel for Bloomberg News shows that 57% of Venezuelans support adopting the US dollar as the official currency to combat the country's soaring inflation. The results break down to 31% who back the measure and a further 26% who strongly support it, while 30% of respondents are opposed or strongly opposed.

The strong backing reflects widespread desperation for a stable monetary anchor as inflation erodes household incomes. Over recent years, the dollar has become increasingly used in retail transactions, gradually turning into the primary price reference for many goods and services. Respondents view formal dollarisation as a way to secure market predictability and protect purchasing power.

The survey suggests that any move toward official dollarisation would enjoy significant popular support, potentially shaping future economic policy in Venezuela.
