Venezuelan Quakes of June 24 Spare Actor Iván López, Move Host Alessandra Villegas to Aid Campaign
On June 24, two strong earthquakes struck Venezuela, causing extensive damage in Caracas, La Guaira and surrounding areas. Colombian actor Iván López, who lives in Venezuela with his Venezuelan wife and daughter, was away on a family trip to Margarita Island when the quakes occurred. He said the trip, arranged by his wife, saved him from being in the quake‑hit Chacao district. From the airport he followed the disaster through the news and later used his social‑media reach to promote humanitarian assistance for the victims.
Telemundo host Alessandra Villegas, returning to the morning show “Hoy Día” from Miami, publicly expressed her sorrow for the casualties and injured, calling the tragedy a “pain in my heart.” She highlighted the network’s on‑air coverage of relief efforts and urged viewers to keep supporting the ongoing aid response for those still trapped under the rubble in Venezuela.
