Venezuelan Red Cross treats 20,000 people in La Guaira after earthquakes

The Venezuelan Red Cross has provided medical and social assistance to approximately 20,000 people in La Guaira following a double earthquake that occurred three months ago.

Jesús González Bethencourt, legal counsel for the organization, stated that the relief efforts include psychosocial support, which has been provided to 5,300 individuals. Current operations include a field hospital at the José Luis García Carneiro stadium and services at the San José de Maiquetía Hospital, alongside community outreach.

Approximately 1,597 volunteers are currently deployed across La Guaira, Falcón, Lara, Miranda, and Aragua. The organization continues to distribute safe water, hygiene kits, and kitchen kits to survivors on the Central Coast. The Red Cross projects that operations in La Guaira could extend for up to 24 months from the date of the earthquake, noting a continuous need for qualified personnel and resources.
