Venezuelan student leaders meet with 2015 National Assembly delegation
On September 24, representatives from the 2015 National Assembly delegation met with student leaders from several major Venezuelan universities at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV). The meeting focused on the difficulties facing the university sector and the students' request to be actively included in the roadmap for national reinstitutionalization.
Student leaders from the UCV, Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB), Universidad del Zulia (LUZ), and Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) presented proposals and expressed concerns regarding academic and institutional stability. In response, the 2015 National Assembly delegation agreed to create an interdisciplinary working group to incorporate academic perspectives into the ongoing institutional discussions.
The delegation, led by Dinorah Figuera, is currently engaged in a second cycle of talks with the current government, a process supported by the United States. This cycle of discussions is expected to continue through December, with recent focuses including freedom of expression and the right to information.
