Venezuelan University Hosts Night 5K Race to Gather Relief Supplies
The Federación de Centros Universitarios of the Universidad Central de Venezuela (FCU‑UCV) will hold a recreational 5 km night race on Saturday, 8 August, starting at 7:30 p.m. on the university campus. The event is open to participants of all ages, including walkers, and aims to collect essential items for people still affected by the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June.
Each participant must bring two donated items – such as non‑perishable food, canned goods, bottled water, basic medicines, diapers or toothpaste – which will be added to the university’s ongoing supply collection. Registration and donation drop‑off begin at 4 p.m. on the day of the race. The course runs entirely along internal university streets, with route maps posted online and guides on site, while university security will restrict campus access to ensure safety.
Organiser Ariel Pérez, secretary of Student Rights for the FCU‑UCV, emphasized that the race is both a community‑building activity and a means to continue supporting families still in need after the seismic events.
