Venezuelan workers and COPEI demand social reforms in upcoming national dialogue

Venezuelan labor groups and trade‑union representatives warned of extreme precarity, noting that pensions are fixed at 130 bolívares (about 0.16 USD) and many families survive on dwindling remittances and informal sales. Over 20 organisations presented these concerns to the International Trade Union Solidarity Network, calling for global solidarity against a government they say ignores workers’ needs.

The regional committee of the Social Christian Party (COPEI) in Táchira issued a statement ahead of the National Dialogue scheduled for 1 August, urging that the agenda include urgent social and salary measures. COPEI stressed that the current purchasing power of Venezuelans is “fatal” and appealed to parliamentarians to prioritize wage increases and broader social assistance as part of the negotiations.
