Venezuela's parliament and 2015 opposition legislators to launch joint work agenda on Aug. 1

On 14 July 2026 the Venezuelan National Assembly, chaired by Jorge Rodríguez, announced that a joint work agenda will begin on 1 August with former members of the 2015‑2020 opposition‑controlled Assembly, represented by Dinorah Figuera. The plan was presented as part of a national‑unity call following the deadly double earthquake of 24 June, which killed more than 4,500 people and injured thousands.

Rodríguez said the initiative aims “to strengthen democracy, rebuild the country and maintain peace,” while Figuera affirmed she “assumes the commitment and political will to promote a technical‑political roadmap.” The agenda prioritises institutional reconstruction, reforms to the electoral system, restoration of guarantees for political participation and other democratic safeguards. The effort is backed by international partners, notably the United States, which has pledged humanitarian and political support. Earlier meetings between Rodríguez and Figuera on 18 June laid the groundwork for the technical‑political table that will guide the cooperation.

The joint effort is framed as a step toward a “new stage” of stability, democracy and national recovery, seeking to bridge the long‑standing divide between the ruling chavista parliament and the opposition‑led 2015 legislature.
