Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced the activation of a national plan to conserve electricity and water as Venezuela prepares for an intense El Niño episode dubbed “Super Niño”. The plan includes a target to add 4,800 MW of thermoelectric generation by the end of the year, supported by contracts with General Electric Vernova and the US‑Argentine firm IMPSA.

In response to the June 24 double‑earthquake that damaged the Termocarabobo plant, 300 MW (half of its 600 MW capacity) have already been restored, and the government aims to recover a total of 4,000 MW of thermoelectric capacity before year‑end. Additional measures call for forest‑fire prevention, monitoring of reservoirs and water basins, and a special agro‑industrial program to protect food production.

The initiative was presented in a video conference with regional governors and officials of the National Electric System, emphasizing citizen participation in energy‑water savings as the most important component of the response.
