Venezuela's Anti-Imperialist Popular Front launches resistance campaign

Venezuela’s Anti-Imperialist Popular Front has launched a grassroots campaign involving political and cultural initiatives to defend national sovereignty. The movement seeks to foster community awareness in response to what it describes as renewed US efforts to recolonize the region.

The campaign follows a US military action on January 3 that resulted in approximately one hundred deaths, including 32 Cuban nationals. Following the intervention, President Nicolás Maduro and congresswoman Cilia Flores were taken into US custody. They are currently held in Brooklyn, New York, awaiting a June 2027 trial on federal charges of narco-terrorism and drug trafficking, charges to which they have pleaded not guilty.

Additionally, the US Treasury Department has taken control of Venezuela’s oil exports, with seized revenues estimated to have reached US $13 billion by late July. International law scholars have noted that these actions may violate the UN Charter and the immunity of a sitting head of state.
