Venezuela's banking sector receives U.S. financial crime prevention training

The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) and various private and public banking institutions have completed specialized training in financial crime prevention and correspondent banking management. The program was conducted with support from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Caracas.

This initiative aims to align Venezuela’s financial sector with international best practices, specifically regarding the prevention, control, and oversight of money laundering. The training also focuses on preparing the country’s financial infrastructure to re-establish and expand correspondent banking relationships with the international circuit.

The training follows the U.S. government's decision in April 2026 to lift sanctions on Venezuela’s public banking system, including the BCV, Banco de Venezuela, and Banco del Tesoro. This move allows Venezuelan institutions to re-enter the U.S. financial system and legally operate with the U.S. dollar. The cooperation is part of a broader normalization of diplomatic and economic relations between the United States and Venezuela.
