Venezuelan business federation pushes joint public‑private committee to oversee post‑quake reconstruction

Business leader Felipe Capozzolo, president of the Federation of Chambers and Associations of Commerce and Production of Venezuela (Fedecámaras), called for the creation of a joint public‑private committee to monitor reconstruction of areas devastated by the twin earthquakes of 24 June and to accelerate the country’s economic recovery. He told state‑run media that the sector needs a “shared vision” and proposed a “committee of follow‑up” to generate concrete proposals, with interim president Delcy Rodríguez present at the National Economic Committee meeting.

Capozzolo also said the construction, garment and textile sectors could provide a rapid‑employment pathway for those who lost jobs in the disaster, urging the government to “viabilizar las cadenas de valor” and create jobs for housing and income needs.

Separately, Miriam Pérez, national director of the steel company Sizuca, reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to national reconstruction, noting its capacity to produce up to one million tonnes of steel products annually and its readiness to supply materials for civil and housing projects. She expressed solidarity with the earthquake‑affected families and praised rescue teams.
