Venezuela's June 2026 Quake Devastates La Guaira, Triggers International Relief Effort

On June 24, 2026, two powerful earthquakes measuring magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck northern Venezuela, with the epicenter near the coastal city of La Guaira. The tremors collapsed residential buildings, damaged hospitals and main roads, and left many dead, missing or trapped under rubble.

The disaster prompted a swift international humanitarian response. The United Nations Refugee Agency warned that needs were soaring, while the Venezuelan Red Cross deployed more than 300 volunteers and 60 staff, establishing field hospitals and first‑aid stations.
