Venezuela’s Ministry of Transport announced that cargo operations at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía will restart on 5 August 2026, covering both inbound and outbound flights. The Instituto Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía (IAIM) issued a circular to cargo handlers, customs agents and regulators confirming the date and stating that the re‑opening follows the progressive recovery plan after the twin earthquakes of 24 June 2026, which registered magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 and caused extensive damage to the terminal and runway, as well as more than 5,500 deaths. The airport had been closed to cargo since 25 June 2026. Transport Minister Francisco Garcés estimated that full restoration of the facility will require 10‑12 weeks of work. The resumption is intended to normalise logistics for importers and exporters, reinforce air connectivity and meet national and international safety standards.
