Venezuela’s Neblina community and Dominican Republic expand water supply projects

In the Neblina community of El Cercado, northeast of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, more than 700 families have endured up to 45 days without running water since the settlement was founded in 2011. Residents rely on distant public‑utility tanks or costly water trucks, and have long requested a central pipe network, a storage tank and a sewage system. Though the local council has secured government funding for a well, construction has not yet begun.

In the Dominican Republic, the Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (Caasd) is supervising the implementation of new water‑piping and treatment facilities in the Manoguayabo and Los Alcarrizos districts. The projects include a field of wells, a distribution network and a treatment plant that together will serve more than 124,000 inhabitants, improving access to potable water for thousands of households.
