Venezuela's submarine cable repair nears completion, restoring internet links

Specialized teams aboard the vessel Wave Sentinel have progressed with the repair of the Cirion submarine cable that supplies Venezuela with international connectivity. Technical checks confirmed that both the coastal landing‑station end and the ocean‑branching unit end of the cable remain within original design specifications, allowing the next repair stages to proceed.

The National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) reported that the southern fiber splice was completed using precision laser technology while the northern end has been recovered and prepared for final splicing. Once link‑testing and synchronization are finished, the cable is expected to resume full data transmission, restoring Venezuela's international internet traffic after the June 24 earthquake damage.
