Venezuela's Vinotinto teams post mixed results at 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

The Venezuelan U‑20 men's side opened the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games with a 1‑0 defeat to Mexico after an early red card sent Marcos Maitán off in the seventh minute. Despite playing most of the match with ten men, the team kept the score close and will look to rebound against Guatemala in their next group game.

In contrast, the Venezuelan women's team began the tournament with a dominant 3‑0 victory over Costa Rica. Goals came from Genesis Florez (2′), Gellinott Reyes (51′) and Orliany Durán in stoppage time. The women’s squad now prepares for a showdown with El Salvador, aiming to maintain their winning momentum.

Both sides aim to secure points in the group stage and keep their hopes alive for advancement in the regional competition hosted in Santo Domingo.
