Venice Biennale features art exploring chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Artist Angelo Orazio Pregoni is using art to express the complex lived experiences of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). His monumental canvas, ‘Natura viva: il malato e il secolo breve’, is currently being exhibited at the 61st Venice Biennale with support from BeOne Medicines.

CLL is the most common form of leukemia in adults, representing 30% of all such diagnoses. In Italy, there are approximately 2,750 new cases reported annually. Medical experts, including Livio Trentin, a professor of Hematology at the University of Padua, note that the disease impacts not only the physical body but also the psychological and relational well-being of patients and their families.

Recent advancements in medical research have introduced more effective, targeted, and better-tolerated treatments that move away from traditional chemotherapy, helping to preserve the quality of life for those affected.
