Venice Biennale screens Hugo Pratt tribute documentary

The Biennale di Venezia, together with the Settimana Internazionale della Critica and the Giornate degli Autori, announced a special out‑of‑competition screening of the documentary “Il desiderio di essere inutile – Hugo a Venezia”. The film, directed by Stefano Knuchel and produced by Fiumi Film, honors comic‑book creator Hugo Pratt on the occasion of the centenary of his birth (2027). The screening will be held in the Sala Casinò of the Palazzo del Casinò on the Lido di Venezia on Saturday 12 September at 15:00.

The documentary concludes a trilogy that began with “Hugo in Africa” (2009) and continued with “Hugo in Argentina” (2021). It explores Pratt’s artistic imagination, his travels and cultural encounters in Venice, the Pacific and Switzerland, using archival footage, photographs, unpublished documents and exclusive recordings of conversations between Pratt and biographer Dominique Petitfaux.
