Venice considers raising day-tripper entry fee to 30 euros

Venice is considering a significant increase in its entry fee for day-trippers to combat overtourism. Local officials, including budget and taxation councillor Michele Zuin, have indicated that the current fee of 5 to 10 euros is too low to act as an effective deterrent, as it remains affordable for almost everyone.

Proposed changes for 2027 include raising the daily charge to as much as 30 euros, with some discussions even mentioning a 50-euro limit. Authorities are also exploring extending the period during which the fee is collected, potentially including months like March and September to better manage visitor flows throughout the year.

The city is also considering a dynamic pricing model, where fees would rise during peak demand periods, and an increase in the overnight tourist tax. While the current system has generated over 5.2 million euros from approximately 680,000 tickets in 2026, officials argue that further measures are necessary to protect the city's quality of life and manage the high costs of physical maintenance.
