Venice Film Festival 2026 announces competition and screening schedule

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 2 to 12, 2026, at the Lido di Venezia. The event features 20 films competing for the Golden Lion and serves as a major launchpad for the international awards season.

Notable films in competition include Martin McDonagh’s ‘Wild Horse Nine’ starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, Florian Zeller’s ‘Bunker’ featuring Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, and Werner Herzog’s ‘Bucking Fastard’ with Rooney Mara and Kate Mara. Other anticipated titles include Lee Chang-dong’s ‘Possible Love’ and Lance Oppenheim’s ‘Primetime’ starring Robert Pattinson.

La Biennale di Venezia has released the screening calendar for accredited attendees. Reservations for these screenings will open in multiple windows starting August 27, 2026, allowing professionals to organize their schedules for the festival's various sections and the Venice Immersive experiences.
