Venice Film Festival 2026: Dates, stars, and key films announced

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival is scheduled to take place at the Lido from September 2 to 12, 2026, with a pre-opening event on September 1. The festival will feature a wide array of international stars, including George Clooney and Ellen Burstyn, both of whom are set to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

The official selection includes highly anticipated films such as Danny Boyle’s ‘Ink’, which will open the main competition, and Nanni Moretti’s ‘Succederà questa notte’. Other notable entries in competition include works by Werner Herzog, Martin McDonagh, and Florian Zeller. The ‘Venice Open – Out of Competition’ section will host diverse titles, including Luca Guadagnino’s seven-hour documentary on Bernardo Bertolucci and an Oasis reunion documentary.

Additionally, the festival continues its tradition of youth engagement through the 38th edition of the ‘Leoncino d’Oro’ award. This collateral prize is judged by a jury of 18 students from across Italy, providing them with professional training and direct interaction with industry experts at the new ‘Casa Cinema Giovani’ space.
