Venice Film Festival addresses gender equality and violence
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival will feature discussions and screenings focused on gender equality and the psychological roots of violence. Gianluca Mech will present the documentary ‘La Trappola di Venere’ at the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido. The project explores the cultural and social mechanisms behind gender-based violence, utilizing a contemporary interpretation of the Greek distinction between two aspects of Aphrodite: Pandemia, representing possessive love, and Urania, representing liberating love.
Additionally, Women in Film, Television & Media Italia will host the eighth annual seminar titled ‘2016-2026. Gender Equality in the Screen Industries: Looking Back to Look Forward’ on September 8. The seminar aims to analyze gender data from La Biennale di Venezia, Eurimages, and the Italian Ministry of Culture. This follows concerns raised by industry associations regarding a decline in female directors within the festival's competition, despite positive international trends.
