Venice Film Festival adds Gaza documentary ‘NAZA’ to main competition

The Venice Film Festival has added the documentary ‘NAZA’ to its official main competition for the 83rd edition. Directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the film is the only documentary among the 21 titles competing for the Golden Lion.

Abraham and Szor previously co-directed the 2025 Oscar-winning documentary ‘No Other Land’. ‘NAZA’ was produced by The Guardian and James Wilson, with executive producer Jonathan Glazer. The film’s title is derived from a Hebrew military acronym used by Israeli intelligence to refer to expected civilian casualties during airstrikes.

Filmed at night from rooftops in Tel Aviv, the documentary examines the systems behind the deaths of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The project is based on investigative reporting conducted between 2023 and 2025 by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and The Guardian. The world premiere is scheduled for September 10 at the Sala Grande.
