Venice Film Festival opens with Hollywood stars and political themes
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival opens on September 2, running through September 12. The event features a diverse lineup of 150 films, including the world premiere of Danny Boyle’s ‘Ink’, which explores the early years of Rupert Murdoch.
Major Hollywood figures are in attendance, with George Clooney and Ellen Burstyn both set to receive honorary Golden Lions for lifetime achievement. Other notable participants include Robert Pattinson, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and the Gallagher brothers from Oasis, who appear in a documentary about their band’s reunion.
The festival is also navigating significant political themes and activist demands. The jury, led by Maggie Gyllenhaal, faces scrutiny regarding global issues, particularly the conflict in Gaza. Several films in the program, such as the documentary ‘NAZA’, address Palestinian and Israeli issues.
In addition to the main competition, the festival includes educational initiatives for Italian schools and specialized workshops for young filmmakers.
