Venice Film Festival honors Tinto Brass and Ewa Aulin

The 83rd Venice Film Festival opened with a tribute to director Tinto Brass, featuring a restored screening of his 1967 thriller ‘Col cuore in gola’. Max Zanin, a director and producer who previously worked as an assistant to Brass, has proposed a Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion for the filmmaker.

Zanin argued that there is no distinction between Brass’s early political works and his later erotic films, stating that the latter were inherently political by centering female sexual freedom and bodily autonomy as a radical stance against moral judgment.

The event also honored actress Ewa Aulin, a former muse of Brass and a prominent figure in Italian cinema. Aulin, known for her roles in various productions including ‘Candy’ and ‘Col cuore in gola’, was celebrated for her impact on the industry during her career at Cinecittà.
