Venice Film Festival sees shortage of major Hollywood productions

The 83rd Venice Film Festival has seen a notable absence of major Hollywood productions. Festival director Alberto Barbera stated that the lack of expected studio films is due to certain projects not being completed on time, rather than a conflict between the festival and major studios.

While American films are still represented, the selection lacks the high-profile, award-season contenders typically seen at the Lido. Notable entries include a Netflix film exploring the rise of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, featuring Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce, and Claire Foy, as well as Martin McDonagh’s film starring Sam Rockwell, John Malkovich, and Steve Buscemi.
