Istanbul and Venice report fatal shooting and boat accident
Two separate fatal incidents have been reported in Istanbul and Venice.
In Istanbul’s Fatih district, a shooting occurred in a shop near the Grand Bazaar, reportedly following a dispute between a shop owner and a customer. The incident, which took place in the Sofcu Han shopping passage, resulted in three deaths and one injury. Authorities have detained a suspect, and investigations into whether one or multiple people opened fire are ongoing.
In Venice, a young couple died following a collision in the Venetian lagoon. The victims, Sean Michieli, 25, and Gabriella Querino, 26, had been married for only three months. After a search, Querino’s body was recovered from the water. The accident involved a water taxi striking the couple’s small motorboat. Preliminary findings suggest the taxi was traveling at approximately 40 kilometers per hour. Local police are investigating the driver and have noted concerns regarding the high speeds often used by water taxi operators to increase earnings.
