Venice Marco Polo Airport adopts silent hub model

Venice Marco Polo Airport has become one of the first Italian hubs to adopt the ‘silent airport’ model, a trend originating in Northern Europe at airports such as Amsterdam, Helsinki, and Bristol.

Managed by Save, the airport aims to reduce noise pollution and passenger stress by minimizing loudspeaker announcements. Instead of traditional name calls or constant audio updates, flight information regarding departures, delays, and gate changes is primarily delivered through digital boards and mobile tools.

Voice announcements are reserved for essential operational needs, such as boarding gate proximity or when specific passengers are missing for a flight. The airport maintains a policy of consulting with visually impaired associations annually to ensure the digital transition remains accessible.
