Venice Metropolitan City approves budget for schools and sports facilities

The Metropolitan City of Venice has approved a budget variation for 2026–2028, allocating 17.6 million euros toward school maintenance, building security, and new sports facilities. A significant portion of this, 12 million euros, is dedicated to constructing two new gymnasiums: one in the Arsenale district of Venice to serve local high schools and another in Mirano.

The Venice project involves repurposing an unused space within the Arsenale in the Castello district, specifically a structure facing Rio delle Galeazze. These facilities are intended to support both secondary education and local sports associations outside of school hours.

Additionally, the Fondazione di Venezia has approved its 2027 programmatic document, which includes 5.6 million euros in grants for the metropolitan area. This represents an increase from the 5.3 million euros planned for 2026. The Foundation expects revenues of 19.75 million euros for 2027, with a projected surplus of 9.52 million euros to support future grants and stabilization funds.
