Venice Municipality confirms two sections for Duca d’Aosta kindergarten

The Venice Municipal Council has approved a resolution to maintain two sections at the Duca d’Aosta municipal kindergarten on Giudecca for the 2026/2027 school year. This decision comes despite enrollment numbers suggesting that the sections could have been merged under standard regulations.

While municipal rules typically require a minimum of 15 children and a maximum of 25 per section, the administration chose to operate in derogation of these standard parameters. The goal is to preserve local service proximity and ensure greater capacity and flexibility for families on the island.

Maika Canton, the Councilor for Educational Policies, stated that the choice supports the specific social and educational needs of Giudecca and Sacca Fisola. The resolution specifically noted the social context of the area, including the nearby women's prison and ongoing public housing recovery initiatives in Sacca Fisola.
