Venice plans redevelopment of historic Pescherie di Rialto

The city administration of Venice has initiated a redevelopment project for the historic Pescherie di Rialto complex. Mayor Simone Venturini recently conducted an inspection of the site to assess the necessary interventions for its revitalization, an initiative led by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE).

The project aims to preserve the architectural and historical value of the approximately 900-square-meter complex while introducing new functions that serve the contemporary community, with a specific focus on younger generations. Planned improvements include the installation of two elevators to enhance accessibility and the creation of dedicated public restrooms for fish market operators.

The administration intends to balance the preservation of the building's commercial vocation and its traditional role in Venetian life with its transformation into an open community space. This approach seeks to integrate heritage protection with culture and local economic activities.
